A trade kicker pays the player a bonus when he is traded. The rate is written into the contract and cannot exceed 15%, and the bonus lands on the acquiring team’s books — so it raises the salary that team has to match, while the team sending him out still counts his salary without it.
Bonus below is this season’s salary times the rate, which is the figure the Trade Machine uses for incoming salary. A player can waive his kicker to make a trade work, and the machine lets you do that per player.
