Reverse solver — target value back to a signing date
How this works
A player signed after opening night is paid only for the days left in the regular season. The league divides the full-season minimum by the number of days in the regular season to get a daily rate, then multiplies by the days remaining, counting the signing day itself.
Prorated value = full-season minimum ÷ days in season × days remaining
Which minimum applies depends on years of service: $1,357,763 at 0 YOS, $2,185,116 at 1 YOS and $2,449,421 at two or more for 2026–27. The reverse solver runs the same arithmetic backwards: it works out how many days of pay the target buys, rounds up to a whole day, and counts back from the last day of the season. Sign any earlier than the date it returns and the deal costs more, which is why that value can land a little above the target.
